I'm an ebay seller and have been considering having my own online store for quite some time...has anyone...?

Done this and been successful? Or has anyone found that an online store does not work as well as selling on ebay? Please let me know your sucess...or not so successful own online business experienes.

Also any tips to opening your own online store?

It depends what your selling, i sell jewellery but i closed mine and just put things at auction instead cause it went to quiet.

your first month is free though so have a go and if your not happy just close it again after a moneth and you wont owe anything.

I will definatly be opening mine up again towards september when it gets really busy with xmas shoppers

Good eBay needs some competition especially PayPal!!!

this os tough -- requires a lot of work

generating traffic to the site is the toughest part of it -- do you pay for adverts on google/yahoo etc????

what do you want to sell? i take it you will be extending the e-bay store -- thats one way to link customers to the site and start driving traffic... the more traffic you generate the better you appear on search engines also...

you can "purchase" a fully ready made shop template complete with an empty database, and all the bells and whistles if you want to go down that route or you can download the open source php versions  such as oscommerce

these come as a full shop and you can customise to your hearts content -- they integrate with paypal. worldpay or a bank if you have/want that sort of capability to take payments

for the opensource stuff - that's probably the easiest way to get going -- you could also pay someone to set this up and customise it for you if you dont have the skills... but as its php --  get a book and start from there....

if you want to buy one -- do a search there are loads out there...
