I'm an economics and finance major currently but don't no if I should be?

Question

I attended my university classes today and I hate all my business classes..principals of accounting II, Finance, Business writing. I'm seriously considering changing my major :( But don't know to what. I'm thinking of giving it a week before I change my mind but I don't know. I can't see myself behind a desk. The only thing I like about business is economics, which I am not taking any classes of this semester. What should I do? Or what other degrees are out there and what can you do with them? I know everyone has different interest but consider me a clean slate. What career path did you take or would you recommend? Tomorrow I'm planning to take a career assessment test. For the first time I'm worried about my future. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'd re-ask after you have gotten some guidance from that assessment test. People are seldom successful at career they don't really like. Perhaps that testing will suggest a direction.

To answer your question, id like to give you a comparison of what the following jobs actually do. We will look a graduates in business, finance and economics.

Say say that you are interested in buying a car. You are surprised to see that a business man, a finance broker and an economist work at the car sales yard. Lets look at their jobs:

The business man:

The business man knows the car sales industry well. He is up to date with strategic leadership theories and is constantly trying to gain more market share. He has a basic understanding of how the car works.

The finacial broker:

This is the guy that is trying to sell you the car. He knows which cars are better, which break down, which are more expensive to fix. He knows how the engine works in a basic manner. He can tell you about the cars power, mileage and performance over all.

The economist:

The economist is the mechanic. He knows the car's engine inside out. He can fix the engine, create new engines, redesign the engines to make bigger, better engines.

Conclusion:

There is no doubt that economics holds open many opporunities for a graduate. Economists are scientists. Economists conduct professional peer reviewed research in many areas. This information is used by decision makers. Although business and finance groups do use math and stats, an economist is a master of econometrics and research. AN economist can also go into business and finance, where as the others would have great difficulty in trying to work as an economist as they do not have the skills to do so.
