big reception, the lot. But I can't find a dress that I like that will suit my age [51]. I don't want a mumsy dress, I do want a proper gown but not a merigue type, no veil, no train, no hoops, just a really nice wedding gown that marks me out as the bride not a guest, Any websites anyone? I'm a size 12 so Evans etc is out of the question!

  2. Monsoon have some lovely dresses suitable to wear on your big day with co-ordinating accessories. Best of Luck and kindest regards. Beth

  3. Try:

    www.bridalonlinestore.com

    Go to the "modest" section.

    Or, go to

    www.davidsbridal.com

and go to the destination wedding dresses. Those are simple but beatiful gowns.

    good luck

  4. I don't know your budget but a shop near me has wonderful wedding dresses. It is called Opera Diva, designer dresses. It probably has a website.

I am the same age as you and also trying to plan a wedding. Unlike you, I am not a perfect size. I need to lose at least 5 stone!

Good luck to you. Best wishes for your future happiness.

  5. How about Coast. My wifes friend got her wedding dress from there. Very classy. Good luck to you anyway !

  6. Congrats!

  7. From what you are saying, you are going for a simple gown without the frills etc...Maybe you should go to debenhams or their website, they are really good for weddings. Or you could try any high street shops in your area

    And Congratulations!!!

  8. What about looking into a seamstress? Depending on where you live you might be able to find someone to make you a dress that's EXACTLY what you want. Plus - sometimes it ends up being cheaper than getting and altering a dress from a store.

    Good luck!

  9. When my mom got married she looked in the mother of the bride dresses and we found a wonderful light mauve full skirt cap sleeve dress. We got the dress at Davids(not my first choice), but not my dress.  I guess the best thing to say is just think outside the box and maybe look at "prom" dresses and "cocktail" dresses.  Good luck I would love to know what you finally found.

  10. I would suggest trying J.Crew. They have very sophisticated, simple and elegant gowns that are not over the top with embroidery and detailing:
