Question:

I'm anemic and I've stopped taking my iron?

I am anemic and I've had iron prescribed for me by my doctor a few months ago, and after I had been taking it for three months I got a blood test and my doctor told me to keep taking it. I've stopped taking it (I really have no idea, this was stupid) and I'm beginning to feel very tired and my body aches all the time. Could this be from not taking my iron? Should I go see my doctor and get another blood test before I continue taking it? I haven't had a blood test since last May.

  1. most likely you are feeling yucky because you are off of it..just keep taking it so you will feel better :)

  2. Take the Iron pills!  You're tired and achy due to low blood count, I had the same problem.

  3. Yes it is highly possible that is the reason you feel the way you do. You really don't have to go to the DR. to get iron unless your not wanting to pay for it. You can buy it at drug stores..longs..safeway...

  4. go and get some iron girl!!!!

  5. Anemia means that your blood is low on iron which is why it's been prescribed for you. Iron helps your blood carry oxygen around your body.  If you've stopped taking your iron tablets and aren't getting enough from your diet alone, then you probably still have anemia - all the symptoms sound right.

Get some meat and leafy green vegetables into you, or keep taking the iron pills and drink lots of orange juice to help with iron absorbtion.
