  1. Definitely don't make something up!

I agree with the first answer, that you should outline your passion for animals and describe your desire to gain leadership experience.  Also, things like babysitting and taking initiative around your own house (chores, etc.) are leadship material.

  2. Definitely don't make anything up!  They will ask you to have an interview and you will get caught in the lie - believe me!  If you are young, they won't expect you to have much leadership experience... but have you ever babysat?  How about helping younger kids at your school with school work?  Were you ever a student crossing guard?  Do you have pets that you look after?  Basically they are looking to see that you have had responsibility for things before.  They are trying to gauge where your level of responsibility lies.  If you were to lie, by making something up, you will NEVER be allowed to volunteer for them - even in the future because the last thing they want is a liar!

In your essay though, you could say that you are young and that you see this as a great opportunity to gain more leadership skills.  They will be impresed with your enthusiasm to better yourself!

    Cheers
