I NEED SOME ADVICE, THANK YOU! I am in love with acting and am sure that i want to do this for my future; however, during junior high and high school I could not and was limited to taking drama classes because I was not allowed to since I was also deeply involved in music. Any moment I could get to act, I charged for it and always fell in love with it, and I finally convinced my parents that this is what I want to do for my life!

They approved and now I want to apply to universities/colleges like NYU and BU (etc.) for acting.....but I read that they ask for resumes.

Is the resume supposed to blow them away? I honestly feel more confident in my performance as opposed to my resume.

What are they looking for????

THANKS!

  1.   As an NYU alum., I am biased, and their theater programs stand against any other.

As answer # 1 states, a resume is a professional way to present yourself, in ANY genre or Corporate situation. There need not be embellishments. Certainly in a cover letter one can express goals, paths one wants to take as a course for life.

Since this isn't a JOB application, but a declaration of your desire to enter an educational program, the STATS should remain factual, and follow a standard resume format while stating, or alluding to, what you believe that School will offer.

I attended 47 years ago, and I didn't have to go through a process other than in the application, of defining, my previous education, offer transcripts, GPA, etc. It seems times have changed?

  2. Do you know are they looking for theatrical or a professional resume, like regular work experience?  If you have some roles you did in high school, even community theatre, definitely list it.  And usually you want to list what you think is your best stuff first, because unfortunately sometimes, but not all, they look at your first two roles or so and then skip the rest.  DePaul from what I heard, has a pretty good theatre school as well.
