Question:

I'm ashamed of my 125 IQ?

I realize that IQ is not something that will change over time, and I also realize that the IQ test measures merely a few aspects of intelligence. That aside, I, at age 14, recently found my IQ to 125. I know that the average IQ for all ages is 100, and that 125 is above said average, but I can't help feeling ashamed of my seemingly lacking intelligence. Any thoughts on why? Thanks for your help, it's definately much appreciated.

  1. Well you have a high IQ because it's above average. Are you embarrassed by it because it's higher than the average?Do you feel abnormal? You shouldn't.Different people have different IQs.Some IQs are higher than others and no matter what your IQ is,you should not feel ashamed. It's normal. You are just very smart.

  2. At your age you're a genius. At adult age, it would be average. But like you said it changes over time :]

  3. Stop being so ungratefull. think yourself lucky you are above average!

On the question of why wou feel ashamed.. This could be because you might come from a family or have friends who have even higher IQs therefore you feel inadequate compared to them even though you are above the general average.

  4. Do not be ashamed! That is really good and I think that means you are an intelligent person. You are above 100 and that is amazing! Sometimes they aren't even correct, you can be lower or higher. And they don't really stay with you for life because if you take it at the age of 10, you can be 30 and be a lot smarter. It's fine and don't get too stressed about it.

  5. watz a eye cue baby? y u ashamed? did u thank u wuz a jeenyus or sumptin? u got insecurities girl. u obviously base all yo self worth on a number, and that sh'^^ shoundt b happenin at fo'teen.

An I. Q. test only measures your ability to take I. Q. tests, not your intelligence. Ä°ntelligence is a thing that cannot possibly be measured. There are many debates about the true value of I. Q. tests, and many researchers have pointed out that they can show a racial bias to people other than caucasians of a certain background.

Did you know that more than half of all the world's population is less than average intelligence? Ä°t is according to an I. Q. test.

Did you know there are documented cases of geniuses with I. Q. 's of 160 living on the streets and dealing with drug addictions? Wow, makes me want to be a genius.

Ä°f you want to know why you feel ashamed, the reason is the same as why any seemingly 'smart' person would feel ashamed- we've been trained and taught to measure our value by grading scale. And yet, it's just not accurate enough at measuring a persons intelligence.

But even if you're not Marilyn Vos Savant, who went on to write an advice column, while her husband, who is not a genius, struggled with his studies, didn't even obtain a medical degree and yet still went on to build the world's first artificial heart, it doesn't mean that you can't contribute to society in a meaningful way.

Forget what the I. Q. tests. This isn't the movie Gattaca, and our soceity hasn't sunk to a level where you're going to be forced to take an I. Q. test in order to be accepted into certain parameters of life.

You're bright enough. Focus on being the best you, and let the chips fall where they may. You don't have to be Dustin Hoffman's character in Rainman to be a full person.

  6. Wisdom is substantially more important than intelligence.  Many people have made serious mistakes in their life with high intelligence - it's not as important as you might think it is.  Emotional intelligence is important too.  125 is fine for an IQ - you don't need to be an IQ genius in this world.

  7. Well, i'm 14 too, and this might not be what you mean. Like, maybe you didn't think you were that smart (which is odd because by what you wrote you seem REALLY smart), and your friends make fun of the smart people. So maybe you're bummed about being something your friends make fun of, and maybe that they'll make fun of you? But if that's the case, then your friends should like you for you, and not how smart you are, and it might do some justice to the smart kids. lol, sorry if i didn't exactly help you.

  8. First of all-don't judge yourself that way-I've met plenty of highly intelligent people that barely could put their underwear on! No street smarts. Personality, morals and drive are huge factors in where you go in life. Belief in yourself and your future. Your writing is excellent-most on answers can't seem to even spell or form sentances-I don't think you sound or present yourself as a person of normal intelligence at all;-but rather of high intelligence-

  9. you realize you are just five points under mensa standards?

  10. what are you talking about, this is a high iq and you know it, so stop fishing for compliments

  12. Stop fishing for compliments or I will poison the lake of compliments!

Nah, just kidding.  Well, seriously, that is above-average IQ, my dear.  What's so shameful about it?

  13. please dont ever be ashamed of your intellegenge, its young people like you that have the smarts that will keep our country running, too many young ones arenot smart enough to carry on and be any type of a leader in our country

  14. a high IQ is BS and your question just proved it. good luck in life :)

  15. Have you met someone with a higher  IQ? You might be comparing yourself to this person. Not everyone is Einstein, be happy with what you have. =]

  16. Don't be ashamed ...
