I'm asking strangers for help on what to do!?

I was accepted into either the semester or year long high school exchange program to Japan (i have to hear back which one). I think it would be incredible, but lately I've been having second guesses. Is this bad? Do you think i should wait until college to do something like that? I don't know Japanese that well either. I'd feel like I'd miss out on the things going on at home even though i'd be in a awesome country

I've only paid 500 to send in the application, so should i back out? I feel so, idk, fickle

I have been away from my hometown 3/4 of the year and i really miss my old HS. I wish to return there next year if I don't go with AFS.

I'd also miss out on summer things in order to prepare for Japan, such as going to Cali, NY, hanging in my hometown, and spending three weeks in the dominican republic with my sister.

Can you persuade me to go or not to go?

  1. it's an experience. I will sacrifice for (maybe) once a lifetime opportunity. Japan moreover, is amazing. This is my personal view.

I am quite an adventurous person so I will challenge myself to do new things. Though it is not easy but at the end, I always learn something so I really like trying new things.

If you are a Westerner, you'll definitely learn a lot in Japan because I think Japan is very Eastern. The customs are different and you'll learn a lot at the end.

    So there you go

    HS? AFS?

  2. So in essence, aren't you asking strangers for help now??

  3. I would say go to Japan. That sounds like a once in a lifetime experience, you were accepted into the program. How many of your friends can say that? The best advice I can give is pick the one choice that you won't regret.

    :O)

  4. Strangers can offer an unbiased opinion because they have no personal stake in what your choice will be.  Nothing wrong with that.

My opinion is that if you have close ties (emotionally) to the things you will miss out on this summer and are already itching to get back to your home town than you should wait until you are in college.  I think that once you start college than you will be missing far less at home with family and especially friends because that is when most of your friends will be doing the same thing you are.  Right now you are way ahead of the pack.

Take as long as you can to make this decision and follow your heart, there is plenty of time to follow your head later on.

Good luck and congratulations on being such a smart young woman!

  5. wwo, I'm not sure...you sound like you've been away form home a long time already, you siad you've been gone for 75% of the year already...and I don't know, I'd base it upon my GPA, and weither or not I could handle the ademcis, but to be offered that program, I'll assume safely you are one smart cookie, lol, but it's not about smarts only, it's what oyu want, you say you may be missing out on great oppotunities, but do you want them...?  Also, why not ask your parents, and friends, me...I'd also wirte out a list of reasons to go either home...or japan, and, well, I just go with what has more...lol.  wherever you go, safe travels, and Good Luck on deciding!  :)
