Question:

I'm at my final cut-in to the 3" waste pipe;oops! it's rigid! how do I splice into that?

I need to "Y" into it, but the original (out to sewer) has zero give left or right or up or down

I could use a piece of 3" pipe.

I have a flexible rubber pipe piece with compression clamps with screws on both ends, but

Do they sell a rigid coupler that slides OVER the top of the 3" pipe that would be adjustable? This seems like the ideal solution.

I was going to wear a gas mask and gloves, is it really gross to cut a waste pipe? Thanks.

  1. Cut the pipe, place your new section into the gap and use one of the flexible rubber pipe pieces with compression clamps with screws on each end.  It should fit easily, with no side pressure from the branch line.

That's perfectly fine for waste pipe.

Most of the time cutting waste pipe is not gross, but if you cut into a low spot, or happen on the place where a clog has built up, it can be a bit messy.  Make sure no-one is using the plumbing up stream when you do this.

  2. yes they do have adjustable pieces that will fit into the 3" pipe, if it a sewer and waste pipe "abs", hen the existing pipe will be black however the adjustable piece will be white "pvc" but you can still put the two together just make sure you buy multi purpose adhesive and not one meant for "abs" or "pvc", as far as the rubber piece I would not recommend it because it can curode if you use a drain cleaner and you don't want a bigger mess later on. As for the smell as long as the pipes going up to the roof for ventilation are not clogged than you should be ok, sometimes birds decide to make nest up there

  3. I do it by cutting 2-6" pieces and gluing 1 in each end

cut the main line to fit the new piece

slide a 3" fernco (rubber) coupling in each end

insert the new piece and slide the fernco's in place

    tighten bands

    connection complete
