  2. Well, if you're adjusting to immigrant status you do, certainly, assuming your spouse is an American citizen. You can't be an immigrant and a non-immigrant at the same time. What would be the point? If your husband has some other non-immigrant status of his own, then that would be up to you whether to change status or not.

    Edit: While some J visas are subject to the 212e 2 year home residency requirement, not all are. I don't think most au-pairs are, however, there's no reason to guess. It will be marked on your visa  and it will be marked on your DS-2019. So, take a look, and if you are, follow Docar's advice.
