I've been playing guitar for about 4 years and I have a Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster. My style is mostly Rock, Alternative, Blues, and sometimes Jazz.

I need a great song, or many great songs to work with that can show off my soloing skills and technique.

  1. well you should pick a song in the style of what they are playing already. like if they are a cover band play one of their songs. or if they are a rock band pick a rock song that is similar to show that you can keep up with them and like the same style of music. but other than that just be yourself.

  2. Hey LLana.   Well,  perhaps you should really be asking the people who know you and have heard what you can do with the guitar.    Your folks,  your friends....  they are better with helping you than anyone here.   And only you will make the final choice for what you play.    If you want to show off your solo skills,  pick the song or songs that you are the most proud of when you play.   Does not matter the style and I am sure it will not be to your advantage  to just play one tune and walk off.   Tell them you have a few tunes that showcase your strengths and styles of playing and would like to let them hear a variety.   You know your best pieces and I think you will choose wisely.   Best wishes on your audition.  Thanks for reading.

  3. Ok F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X., Tom Waits, by the fall of troy,Beat it by Micheal Jackson, and Say It Ain't So By Weezer

  4. uhh pick an aerosmith song. they are the bluesiest and jazziest rock band i know. walk this way has a solid solo. and so does love in an elevator

  5. songs on guitar hero like Miss Murder by  AFI or When You Where Young by The Killers and like Slow Ride by Foghat

and a good song is Through the Fire and Flames by Dragon Force.... yea like stuff with guitar solos...

  6. I have the perfect song which I used to recently audition, and make a band. Eric Johnson's famous Cliffs of Dover. It is not all that difficult if you have been playing for 4 years and have soloing skills, then this song should be about where you should be skill wise. And a tip, and the pivoting 15, 19, 15, 19, 15, 17...etc part, you must pick the pivot note (15) with your middle finger, and use downstrokes on all other notes. Good luck.

  7. Sweet child o mine.  Love the solo.  Might be a little below your level though....just play your favorite song.

  8. ok you've gotta see what the band is into. if they're a band who takes themselves seriously then they won't want a one man (or woman) band so don't try to go van halen on them or you won't be calling them, they'll calling you if you catch my drift. if your into blues and you've got a strat then you should show it off with a stevie ray vaughn tune they're p**s easy and are really fun. but again if the band takes themselves seriously then your best bet is to write a song. if you've already written a tune then that's tops, if not just play a lively 12 bar blues and give it a name they'll love that. put some new strings on and rock the house you'll get the gig mate
