Question:

I'm backpacking thru Nepal- what should I bring?

My main question is about weather/temp: what kind of clothes should I bring? Thin layers no doubt, but is it going to be cold in October/November? I'll be doing some trekking, but not trying to climb any serious peaks or anything....

And how bout sleeping- will it be very cold at night? can I just bring a pad and blanket? or will I need a very warm sleeping bag...

Can I just bring a tent and camp as I go? I'm on budget and am perfectly comfortable living 'bum style' where ever it's ok to do so- I'm not into frills and am happy playing in the dirt.

Thanks for all or any advice you can give me. Please dont comment if you've never been there and are just guessing ;p

  1. good ground mat.

  2. i know what your saying.  your not talking about climbing the peak mountains, your talking about trekking around

-10 is celsius.  it'll be about 50 degrees F there at night.  which to us in northern united states is actually pretty nice and cool, to those living in hot climate, its freezing.  i suggest a really good blanket and that's about it.  a sweater is good for the layers.  nothing really thick.  i went in monsoon season too.  it really was nice, never wore a coat (i had brought one and it was a waste of space).  i suggest a good sweater- not even wool or anything that thick just a decent sweater and a decent blanket for at night.  a sleeping bag is not a bad idea since you will be outside.

happy to answer more questions, loved it there.

  3. the season you want to go in is the monsoon seasion. Can rain A bit.Nepal is A big place and just trekking can be hard work because of the high altitude theirs not as much oxygen in the air you breath.Temps in this seasion can drop to -10 at night youl need A down sleeping bag.Look for your own helth and safety I recomend you go with A trekking agency,A propper guide,Porters to carry your gear food cooking gear etc. This is the himalayas all trekking and climbing have risks altitude sickness can kill.
