  1. yes what she said above..

the salary, rent, transportation allowance etc.. is excellent..

and yes, id suggest also to stay in Jubail for a while at least till you get used to the road system.. then if you feel adventurous.. Your family probably will like Khobar/Dhahran better..  its more westernized and your wife can socialize better with other women of her same interests.... Your children are young yet, so they wont be in schools yet. but if you are here till they are kindergarten age, definately move to Khobar so you will be closer to the better international schools for kids.. You dont want them on the bus for 2 hours each day going and coming..

but your salary is good.. (sure it could be better) but its good

cars: In Dammam there are some huge used car lots (everywhere really, but Dammam the largest in this area) and you can find some real hidden gems.. find someone who knows a bit about cars to come with you though to test them out.. There are some used dealers who go to USA and buy used cars in the bulk and ship em back here.. So some are good and some are lemons.. all in the mix.. but we have (we are used car people).. we have found excellent cars over the years there...

  2. ......you're lucky you have been offered such huge amount for an expat including housing and transport allowance.....If you're going to work in Jubail might as well look for a house near your work. There's Royal Commission in Jubail which you can rent a nice cozy fully furnished house not exceeding your house allowance a year and regarding transportation you can buy used cars from SR15,000 and up and they are already in good condition meaning model 2000 and above cars already......

  3. dont listen to Mintee.. this woman would worship george bush if the saudi goverment said so

  4. If you job is in Jubail, then you should live there.  It's not that close to Dammam that you'd wanna drive everyday.  Plus, the highways aren't very safe here....lots of people speeding (+100 mph, usually closer to 120 mph though) and passing you on the shoulder.

I think the salary is good especially since you're getting housing and transportation allowance.  You'll have more than enough to live on and you should be able to save some money.  If you don't eat out all the time in American restaurants, then food will be pretty cheap.  Utilities are cheap.  Fast internet is the only thing that's not cheap here.  Sorry, I don't know about the rent in Jubail, but 42K should be enough.  Cars...not sure about that either..

If you need to dress nicely for work, I'd suggest bringing a lot of work clothes with you.

  5. I worked and lived in Jubail for 1 and half years, Jubail is a very small town and unbelievably BORING, but since your work is in Jubail you have to live there, unless you don't mind driving 150 kilometers daily to and from work then you should live in Khobar.

Money wise, although I don't know the job position you have given, but generally it's a good bargain and you should be able to save some money depending on your lifestyle.

You do not have to worry about used cars, they are cheap and affordable.
