  1. You'll know you're being sued because you'll be served with a copy of the citation (just the legal paper that lets you know you're being sued and for what), and it will give you a date to answer by. I'll bet you're not being sued and won't be.

  2. Who is suing you????  The cc company probably sold your debt to a collection agency for pennies on the dollar years ago.  If it's been 10 years, your debt has probably been sold numerous times.

Talk to the people you owe and offer them a lesser amount now...they'll probably take it b/c they only paid a fraction of what you owe for the debt.

If it was a bill collector who told you they're gonna sue you, they're full of c**p...they just said it to scare you into paying.  If you have the summons in hand, you plead your case when you go to court.

Go see a financial advisor....they'll help you decide whether it's worth declaring bancruptcy before you go to court, or if something like debt consolidation would be better.

  3. Find out what the statute of limitations is for your state. If it's past that then they can do nothing. May even be illegal for them to try after that depending on the state.

  4. plead not guilty when you go to court.
