Question:

I'm buying a camera from the US, how much should I expect to pay in duty costs?

It is an Canon SLR 450D, as far as I am aware it is made in the US. . .not 100% sure.

It will be approx. $900 CAN.

Any help would be appreciated!

  1. Contact Canadian Border Services, they can tell you.  It's unlikely it is made in the US, more likely Thailand or Mexico, in which case it will incur duty.

    No matter where it's made, it will cost GST and PST, as well as handling fees from whoever is shipping it.

    BTW, did you check on warranties?  A lot of the camera companies (I thought Canon included, but i could be wrong) do not allow warranties to cross the border.  In other words, if you have a problem, you might have to ship it back to the US.
