I'm buying a car on eBay about 2 hours away from me, so how would I pick it up then drive it back?

I'm going to pick it up from the seller, but I don't have plates or temporary permit. I don't have the title or registration or anything. Any advice? I really don't know how this is supposed to work, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. What is needed is different based on the state in which the car is being sold. You local vehicle registration office should be able to tell you (even when it is coming from a different state).

One way to get it home is to trailer it. Rent a U-Haul with an auto transport for a day.

If you can get the permits to move it, then (if it is road worthy) drive it home.

This is something to look into before bidding, not after-wards.

  2. are you sure? that might be a scam..

    just drive safely.

  3. if you don't have the title you don't own the car.

you can get a tow trailer from hertz.

or wait till you get the title and register the car they will issue you a temporary tag so you can drive it.

you need to contact your insurance co. as well.
