Well it actually depends on the amount of running you are planning on doing. If you are planning to run long distance go for somthing with lots of support under the heel probably asics. If your planning on just doing some jogging around the neighborhood i would say nike free which have great support for your heels as well as your toes. Sprinting I would say nike but it needs to be very light and doesn't need much support except for the arch of your foot.

I use Asics during practice, but when its a race I wear nike.

it depends if you want spikes or running shoes.

for running shoes its always best to get Asics

for spikes makes sure you get Nike

and for the spikes, if your a sprinter get the ones with no heel

mid distance 800-1600 there will be a cushion on your heel and for long distance make sure your spikes have a long thin heel from the back of middle of your foot to the heels

I would go to store and test myself. People told me Nike and I just didn't like the way they felt. So I went with New balance. Good fit for me.
