I'm buying something online, but don't want it delivered to my home, can I put the post office's address?

I'm ordering something over the internet that I would rather pick up at the post office than have shipped to my home,

and it asks for my address, obviously, in the shipping information.

Could I instead put the address of the post office?

How would I have something not delivered directly to my home?

  1. Either a post office box or get it mailed to a friend's house.  But let them know about it.  You can not simply mail it to the post office.

  2. It depends on whether it's being delivered by USPS or UPS or Fed Ex, etc. Obviously UPS and Fed Ex can't deliver to a PO Box.

You'd be better off having it delivered to your work address or a friend's house....after you ask if it's okay.

  3. Assuming that you're paying with a credit card, it must be delivered to the address that your credit card bill goes to.  The other option is to pay with Paypal, where you can bill to one address and have it shipped to another.

  4. If you live in a small town, have it delivered to your name, General Delivery, your town's name, State, and zip code.

I'm assuming the sender will agree to this.  Most will.

    e. g.

    Johnny Smith

    General Delivery

    Green Woods, Washington, XXXXX-XXXX

If you live in a larger city, you will have to go to the Main Post Office.  And you will have to visit there everyday with I D until you get your package.  Otherwise they will return it.  They don't hold it for very long.
