  1. Our flag team is just a 7 man squad.

We have the other 6 kids run to the end zone around the person that made the touchdown.

They hold hands in a circle then raise their hands at once shouting

    "wooosh - touchdown".

    why?

    Because they're young...

    - if one kid runs the extra distance - we want all of them to do it...

    - we're promoting team unity at this age...

    - we want them to celebrate the score...because it's a highly competitive league.

    - and because, on the adult tackle team, the defense swarm tackles ball carriers then jump up, join hands, and yell "CRUSH", the kids wanted something like that...

and yes, it was suggested to the staff that it was unsportsmanlike to celebrate...

    I don't care.

The parent that suggested this was told to go play Golf.

  2. Teach them NOT to celebrate touchdowns. Teach them to have class and dignity, to respect themselves, their opponent, and the game. Show them some old footage of Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith. Make sure they understand that end zone celebrations are an insult to their opponents, are a shameless act of self-aggrandizement, and will cost them 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct when they move up to junior high-high school football.

Teaching kids that end zone celebrations are acceptable is most definitely NOT a good idea.

  3. Wait for the celebration until they are on the sideline.  You don't want your opponent to feel you're "rubbing their faces in it."

  4. I think your biggest concern should be making the touchdown first, no use in celebrating when you're getting shut out. but for good celebration ideas, have them watch Any Given Sunday. There's a few good team celebrations in there.

  5. Have the players who didnt score congratulate the player who did but also remind them to be good sports
