  1. It means the kids are locked-in for the duration of the event (often an overnighter) - nobody allowed in or out. The doors may be literally locked (altho likely openable from the inside, tho possibly setting off an alarm if done - I imagine the fire dept. would have a concern if they were locked in without a way to exit...)

  2. A lock-in is a social event, often overnight, in which participants are required by the event to stay.  Activities are planned, such as crafts, team building activities, movies, sports ect...  Generally on an overnight lock-in, participants stay up the whole night participating in these activities.

  3. It's kind of like a big overnight party. The kids go into the building, the doors are locked so they can't leave (except for emergencies, of course), and parents pick them up in the morning (and usually take them straight home to sleep!).

Where the lock-in is held determines the activities. I was at one at a YMCA once where we could swim, play basketball, etc. In smaller facilities, usually the kids play games, watch movies, talk, and eat all night. It's sort of like a big slumber party--nobody really sleeps, although you can.
