I'm pretty confused here, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

1. I understand that in a human there are 44 autosomes (22 pairs), but how many chromosomes were contributed by the mother? and by the father?

2. A male has 2 s*x chromosomes (X and Y) however how many are contributed by the mother? and by the father?

3. Similar to above, a female has 2 s*x chromosomes (X and X), however how many are contributed by the mother? and by the father?

Thanks. I'm taking an honors biology enrichment course over the summer, and I just need some help.

  1. 1. 23 chromosome from mom and 23 from dad. so there are 46 chromosome in human.

    2. one from mom which is usally X becuase female have both X

so X will contribute to u and from dad it will be either X or Y. so if from dad the baby got Y than the baby will be boy because they get Y from dad and X from mom. if from dad they get X than the baby will be girl becuase from dad the baby get X and from mom too.

    3. only one the female is all the time X because they have both X. remember that mom and dad they both contribute one s*x chromosome.

  2. 1. Both parents contribute the same amount of chromosomes, which is 22 chromosomes.

    2. The mother contributes one s*x chromosome and the father contributes one s*x chromosome. The mother will always contribute a X chromosome, whereas the father who will give a X or Y chromosome.

3.Although a female is made up of 2 X chromosomes, they only supply one X. And like i said before, the father will either supply an X or Y.

And pine trees are living things and can reproduce.

  3. 1.  22 chromosomes are contributed by the mother and 22 are contributed by the father for a total of 44 chromosomes (22 pairs).

    2.  The male is XY and gets the X-chromosome from his mother and the Y-chromosome from his father.

    3.  The female is XX and gets one X-chromosome from each parent. (therefore it is the male gamete that determines the gender of the offspring)

  4. 1.) Half of all the chromosomes that you have were contributed by your mother and the other half by your father. (22 each)

2.) The mother always gives and X to her child but the father can give an X or a Y; which one is randomly decided.

    3.) Same as above.

Yes pine trees have s*x cells. They are in the pollen they give off and in the seeds.
