I'm confused about the Iraq War?

I really don't fully understand the Iraq War. for example, did the war started because of oil or was it because they heard something about Saddam having a secret weapon and the Americans wanted to stop him? I know for a fact that Saddam has been captured by the American army and has been executed by his own people (unless I'm greatly mistaken) but what I don't know is, is the war still going on, or did it end? America is still sending in its troops to fight off the insurgents and doing other stuff there. I really don't see the point in this cause Saddam is already dead, can't the Americans (mind you I'm an American too) just forget about and send their army home? and what are they doing there anyway? does it have something to do with the oil, or the insurgents themselves?

  1. "did war started because of oil" WHERE were you when 9/11 happen?

"I know for a fact that Saddam has been captured by the American army and has been executed by his own people (unless I'm greatly mistaken)"

YES HE IS DEAD. again... watch the news?

we are in iraq because THE UNITED STATES think the iraq people should have the same government as me do back in the states. EVER HEARD OF RIGHTS? .... more to the war but i dont know the rest

  2. You are going to get different opinions on the war from different perspectives.  Ignore the hyperbole and the BS, and form your own decisions using common sense.

If this was a War for Oil, why is gas $4+.

Wars, all wars, enrich corporations, but not all wars are about enriching corporations.  (The American Civil War, WWII, the American Revolution, etc.)

Now specifically the battle in Iraq, and the capture and execution of Saddam Husein.

After Gulf War I, in which Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait for oil, the US pushed Iraq forces back to Baghdad.  Hussein surrendered and signed a treaty with the US, and her Allies, by the time we invaded Iraq in 2003 Saddam had violated this peace treaty and incurred over 72 UN violations.  He was also rattling his Sabre at the US and firing at US planes.  Further he was supporting terrorist activities throughout the Middle East.  After 9/11 The US felt, DEMS and REP felt Saddam was researching and building weapons of mass destruction.  Given that he had invaded two contries (Iran, and Kuwait) and given that he had committed genocide on the Kurds, and was cooperating with terrorists in the Middle East he was considered a threat to the US and its allies, we invaded and removed him from power.  The Iraqi's tried and convicted Saddam of war crimes and atrocities carried out on his own people and executed him.

As for why we are still there, AlQuieda continues to be a force on the ground alond with other terrorist, Syran and Iranian Forces attempting to overthrow the fledgling democracy in Iraq as such a democracy poses a threat to the Islamic Fascist Ideals of our enemies.

I hope I answered your question.

  3. According to Alan Greenspan, it's all about oil. However, it's also about enriching corporations through no-bid contracts and other get-rich-quick schemes. Right now, American oil companies are profiting as Iraqi oil is shipped to refineries in California. Many wealthy and powerful interests are gaining more power and more influence as Americans and most Iraqis suffer.

The US foreign policy is geared to take advantage of world resources. Unlike Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan have enormous resources (oil) so the US is likely to remain firmly entrenched.

Which do you believe is the reason for the US to be in Iraq?

    - Catch the evil doers?

    - Protect Iraqi citizens?

    - Provide Democracy and Freedom?

    - Fight Terrorism?

Most of the American people are paying a huge cost to enrich the wealthy. A large majority of Americans want to end the occupation of Iraq. If America is a democracy, why are our troops still there?

The answer is that wealthy interests trump American citizens every time. It's the military - industrial complex at work, sabatoging democracy at every turn.

  4. Oil,Halibruton, money. This is it.

  5. The more you investigate into the answer to that question, the angrier you will get.  Here's some video evidence to get you started.

  6. The US has been involved in many nation building attempts, and if there's one thing we should learn it's that you can't remove a leader, no matter how bad, and leave the people to their own devices and expect a workable situation to come about.  You have to follow through with creating a better system of rule for those people.  It worked in Germany, and it worked in Japan, but our meddling in South America and the Middle East in the past has not been followed up with creating a basic government framework.  Removal of Saddam is phase 1, establishment of working government is phase 2.  If we leave and another Saddam-esque ruler takes power (very likely to happen in that region) everything would have been for nothing.  That pattern has played itself out time and time again in our failed nation building attempts.

Oil is involved.  I've not seen any credible evidence that we are stealing it or getting lucrative deals on it.  The most crooked piece of evidence is the Iraqi Oil Law which gives very lucrative incentives for companies that get oil producing contracts from Iraq.  The catch is Iraq and its people have the sole say in who gets these contracts.  So far, the US oil companies have received none.  I think several British companies have received contracts.  Because Iraq has so much oil, the potential to use that oil wealth against the US is a danger to our national security, another reason we can't allow that region to have another dictator and take the chance they hold a grudge against the US.
