I'd like to live in London for 2 or 3 years to improve my English. The kids are 4 and 6 years old.

Are this costs "real":

£1000 - Rent a flat not in central

£300 - Transport (tube, bus)

£130 - Gas, Water, Electricity

£400 - Food

£50 - TV/Internet

???

  1. the cost of living is much higher in London so ,you should take that into account

  2. £40,000 is above the UK national average...you should be ok as long as you don't go mad with your spending. Be realistic with your budget...err on the side of over-estimating costs of utilities and food. Bear in mind London is the 5th most expensive city in the world to live in (based on costs of housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment)

Hope you enjoy your stay :-)

Provided you don't want to live like a sultan, you'll be just fine.
