What's the average amount for rent in an 1-2 bedroom apt?

I'm from the central valley in California, how different is Portland?

What's the minimum wage there?

I can relocate my job there. It's on Burnside St, next to the Burnside Bridge along highway 5.

Any info on Portland would be greatly appreciated.

  1. minimum wage is 7.95 an hour

  2. I think the weather is most importnan, as I moved to Seattle from Phoenix. Froze the first year, finally got used to it after 5-6 and had to move after 20. Portland is often cloudy and often rainy, much more overcast than where you are now. The flowers are beautiful, 'cause the rain. If you can live with the difference, go for it! I moved from Seattle to Bend,OR (center of state) and LOVE it!

  3. rents kinda high, the city is  big..there is alot of rainfall. If you love tall bridges and lots of them..(portland is the city for you).

  4. its like 600-700$, I dont know the minimum wage! Oregon is way better than california!i YOu are making a smart move indeed

  5. It depends on the apartment you want ... a one bedroom can cost as low as $400 up to $1500, a two bedroom is anywhere from $625-$1800.  My husband and I are moving to Portland next weekend, and we have rented a great apartment in one of the 'suburbs' of Portland for $725.  There is NO sales tax in Oregon, but you will have to pay a state income tax, but that is much less that the sales tax we have been paying in Seattle.  If you live in the central valley, Portland is a 'bigger city' with 'small town values' ... but Oregon is generally a very liberal, artsy state, and Portland is the center of that, even though it's on the northern border right next to the Columbia and with the Willamette running through it.  One big thing you should know, though ... two weeks ago, Oregon had the highest unemployment rate in the US, 6% (the national unemployment is 5.7%) ... so be sure you'll be able to keep your job if you come ... and don't tell anyone you are from California ... say you are from Nevada or Ohio or Michigan.

The weather there is as hot as the central valley in the summer, and is colder than Seattle in the winter.  I don't know the minimum wage, but you should be able to find that out by going to a website like oregon.gov and doing a search.
