I'm considering adoption and wondering what is the lowest cost way to go?

I don't plan on adopting for a while but I think I want to adopt an orphan or something and was wondering how I would go about doing that someday. What is the process and how much does it cost and does anyone know the lowest cost way to go? I have a 9 month old now. I wanted to get a child within a couple years of his age and he will likely be around 5 when I consider adopting for real. I would prefer a Christian adoption agency but I'm not ruling out others.

  1. It's Costco!  It used to be Wal-Mart, but now the prices at Costco have them beat!

  2. Become a foster family open to adoption.  The state covers most if not all fees involved when it comes to an adoption of a child from foster care.

  3. If you live in the US, the lowest cost way to go is to do foster care/adoption through the state department of child services.  They even give you a monthly allowance, the amount depends on the childs age and needs.  That way you are also adopting a child that really needs a home.  Agencies are all fairly expensive and the only way to know the lowest cost option is to contact the different agencies in  your area/state and ask them what their fee scale is.  Non-profit agencies would probably your best bet.  Good luck!

  4. Catholic family services, but you will be screened thoroughly and it might take a year or so, but it will cost you relatively nothing...

  5. Contact county & state agencies. Most of the time there is little or no cost involved.

  6. Lowest cost is probably the foster to adopt program in your state-  you don't mention where you are from.  I know that if you foster children that are already wards of the state it is bascially free (in Wisconsin) but you have to be willing to deal with the children's past which may have caused psych issues or behavioral problems.  A friend of mine adopted three children through foster care (siblings) they were 9 6 and 5 at the time of their adoption.  She fostered first, but it was basically free.  Lutheran Social Services is a good Christian agency that could help you out with this too.
