  1. When you are a vegetarian, you do not consume any meat.

But, you can still consume foods containg milk and eggs.

Lacto-Ovo Veg: Eat milk and egg products

Ovo Veg: eat egg products, but no milk products

Lacto Veg: eat milk products, but no egg products

Just remember that if you stop consuming animal proteins, that you have to find other ways to get the nutrients you are lacking, like B12.  Make sure you are completely educated before you make such a big change.  Being a vegetarian is one of the healthiest ways to live, but just make sure you take care of yourself.

  2. This would be a very serious life choice you would be making.  A vegetarian stays away from all meat including poultry and fish, but a demi-vegetarian can eat anything but red meat.  Chicken, turkey, seafoods and such are not red meat.  Basically, any mammal IS red meat--beef, pork, lamb, venison, etc.

But be sure you want to do this because if you give it up for too long, it is so hard to go back.

I've been a demi-vegetarian for 6 years--a while back I had a bite of a burger and was sick for hours.

Just take care that you are making the right decision for you.

    Good luck and be well!

    Edit:

The prefix “demi” means half, or, in this context, imperfect. So a demi-vegetarian is someone who is imperfectly vegetarian. We might say “almost vegetarian.” As in the case of vegetarianism proper, the regimen can be for dietary or moral reasons, or both.

    and...

    demi-vegetarian

       1. A person who eats fish but not meat.

It drives me crazy when people say I'm a "picky" eater.  Also, when people say there is "no such thing as a demi-vegetarian"  Look it up folks.  I had to give up red meat (which I did like the taste of, but killed my cholesterol) for health reasons---not because I didn't like it.

  3. No, you wouldn't be considered a vegetarian if you eat chicken, fish or seafood (or insects or worms or arachnids or jellyfish etc. for that matter) - the same as if you were eating beef, veal, lamb, mutton, pork, venison, dog, cat, rabbit, possum, rat, kangaroo, snake, crocodile, turkey, buffalo, or any other commercially (or non-commercially) available animal flesh. They're all still animals, regardless of which natural order they belong to.

I'm not saying "don't eat them" per se - I'm just saying that if you do eat them, you're not really a vegetarian. You can, of course, still *call* yourself one - but, by the same logic, I can call myself a Roman Catholic for instance, even though I don't recognise the authority of the Pope, don't pray to statues, don't believe in God, haven't been baptised into the Catholic church, don't attend church, etc. etc. It's pointless pretending to be something you're not.

But if you're really serious about becoming a *genuine* vegetarian, then there are plenty of alternatives to animal flesh, as sources of protein, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients. Just read back through the thousands of other questions and answers in this forum.

    Good luck!

  4. Vegetarians are people who don't eat meat.  There are different kinds of vegetarians, but chicken is as meaty as anything else.  Fish are meat too, but some vegetarians don't look at them the same way.

  5. Wow! Eating "meat" in any form, white or red doesn't make you or anyone else V-E-G-E-T-A-R-I-A-N.

  6. This question is pretty much answered but I have to say something about the first answer.

There is no such thing as a "demi-vegetarian". It's called picky eating.

Not eating one type of animal doesn't make you special.

I used to laugh at vegetarians [the ones I met left a bad impression] and although I hardly ate any meat [I was picky, didn't like pork, didn't like seafood, or basically anything except for steak] I was convinced I could never give it up.

I decided to give it up for Lent this year [I slipped a few times though] and haven't touched it since. It's not as hard as some would make you believe.

    Good luck =]

  7. When you are a vegetarian you are not supposed to eat anything that has eyes

  8. I'm a vegetarian and I eat fish!! its not very frowned upon!! my family eats ALOT  of meat too so I know how you feel!! eggs are  fine too!! besides that no meat! and once you get past the first 2 weeks it's pretty easy! It's hard then because your eating so much other stuff that isn't meat your stomach gets really upset!!

  9. You can't eat any meat if you are a vegetarian.  That include beef, pork, fish, chicken, duck, turkey...dead animals are meat.  I would suggest that you have your Mother help you with the research you will need to do to be a healthy vegetarian.

You are old enough to choose what you want to eat, but I think you will need additional help choosing foods that will keep you healthy.

Since your Mother is OK with you becoming vegetarian, I am sure she wouldn't mind helping you...She will probably be doing the cooking and the shopping anyways, so she needs to know as much as you know.  It can be a bonding thing with you and her.  She can take you to a bookstore and you could buy some cookbooks.  You can even sit down with her and google a bunch of stuff.

For a vegetarian diet to work, you need to get certain nutrients from plant sources instead of meat sources.  There are a ton of websites out there just waiting for you.

  10. I was a vegetarian for a while.  My friend is a vegetarian and helped me become one.  Ummm...she said some vegetarians eat seafood.  That's the only meat I ate.  She said something about mono-vegetarians.  Not really sure what that is =/

Yeah I'm 13 too.  My family eats a lot of meat too.  When my mom would make a meal she would just either make mine separate or just take all the meat out of mine.

  11. Vegetarians can't eat red meat, white meat, or fish. You should become one! I'm 18 and haven't eaten any meat since I was 4 and I have no health problems.

  12. well first off im 15 nd im a vetgetarian for a little while now but i dont eat any type of meat at all. i decided to become a veg by myself. all my friends nd family eat meat. there are such things as non-red meat eaters but rle ur not tychnically a vegetarian if u eat any type of meat. it doesnt matter weather its a chicken or a cow. they are still treated soo decustingly and kept in horrible conditions. they both are injected with a load of antibiotics and hormones and in the end killed for consumption. it sounds like u and ur friends rle just wanna become a veg for a few reasons maybe but its something u should think about seriously. i would support u 100%. not only does not eating meat stop animal cruelty it improves ur health and the environment. also if u become a veg u save 100 aniamls a year and it made me feel happier because i love animals. u should also visit peta2.com they have awsome info and videos, good luckkkk =)

  13. That's great you're interested in going vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat any animal flesh. So you would not be considered a vegetarian if you ate chickens, turkeys, fish, etc.

There are lots of delicious fake meats available these days, like veggie burgers and veggie "chicken" strips. You can get a veggie burger at Burger King, Johnny Rockets, and lots of other restaurant chains.

Here's a list of popular faux meats:

    Good luck!

  14. Sweetie, vegetarians don't eat any kind of meat. If it had a face we don't eat it. Fish have a face, so we don't eat them.

We replace meat with: beens, seeds, nuts, peanut butter, whole grains, eggs, dairy, tofu. There are also lots of fake meats like: veggine burgers, veggie hot dogs, veggie sausage, and fake chicken patties.
