I'm contemplating switching to a plant based diet. purely for nutritional purposes. I also love animals, but it's not the most important reason I'd become one. Anyway, the issues I have are certain cravings for certain meats. Sometimes I'll just crave some fish or chicken. Beef pork and eggs I can do without, so I'm not really sure what to do...any opinions out there? thanks.

  1. I've been vegetarian for most of my life, i can honestly say that the mere thought of eating meat now makes me want to reach. Once you get used to it, you don't crave it anymore and it actually starts to repulse you.

All i can say is, if you feel yourself craving that stuff, just try and put it out of your head, or if you just have to eat it, make sure the meat is free range and ethically sourced.

Give it a try anyway and see how you go, it's a very healthy diet if you eat right.

  2. By being a vegetarian, you are slowly killing yourself. Meat has many neutrients in it that are vital to your body's healthiness, I know that for a fact. The food pyramid includes meats for a reason.

Why do you want to become one? To lose weight? If so, just cut down on your servings and types of meat you have.

But if it's something like "oh, I just want to save all of those innocent little farm animals!" then that's not going to matter because GUESS WHAT!? Millions more are STILL going to be killed every day anyway to feed the millions of meat lovers! SHOCKING ISN'T IT?

If you "have a craving for meat" then go ahead and eat it! It's just a food!

  3. there is no such thing as being part vegetarian. either you eat meat...or you don't.

I went vegetarian cold turkey. I got tired of being sick and needed to make a drastic change.

What worked for me may not work for everyone.

  4. well im a vegetarian so my opinion might be a little biased. but i think if youre going to go vegetarian, dont half*ss it. i mean, seriously, if you cant do it, then dont. but if its for health reasons, then id suggest going pescatarian. that would still cut out chicken but you can eat fish. youre going to have to give up chicken though. if you love animals, then youll give up chicken because they are treated really bad in slaughterhouses. like i said, just dont half*ss being vegetarian. that bothers me

  5. okay. . .did you know humans are not true carnivores?? we don´t go by a cow and think ¨yum, that looks so good!¨and start drooling. heck no! lions start drooling when they see a zebra or some animal they like to eat. we don´t crave meat, or fish or whatever you say you´re craving.

humans crave fat, and sugar and salt and flavor. and when we crave sugar it might take the form of a pie, and when we crave fat it might take the form of a deep fried cow. so when you think your craving an animal think of a very flavorfull opiton. like steamed tempeh, or a veggie burger with all the fixings(tomatoes and onions and some fries, yum!) or even a very spicy bean burrito. just find the craving, you might just be craving a grilled banana!

  6. The secret is to get started and learn how to make delicious vegetarian food.   It is really good!   Once you do this you will be so happy with what you are eating you won't even think about letting some animal die for you to eat.   Vegetarian food is delicious!

  7. There are fake versions of everything and I agree, the fake ones taste better.

    Try Morning Star.

Or if you're not up to the idea and want the real thing.

    Eat free-range cruelty-free chicken.

They don't inject hormones into them, snap their beaks off while they're still alive, or stuff 10 live chickens in spaces meant for 1 (among other things).

They roam free and are generally very happy chickens.

Fish is really healthy for you, so you don't have to cut that out of your diet, and they don't treat them any less cruel than a bear does (not the case for other kinds of seafood, though)

However, Morning Star Farms tends to be cheaper, and is overall a little more healthy for you.

As for the person who said "don't half-@ss it" s***w you, you PETA Freak.

    EVERY little bit helps.

It won't make you a vegetarian, but you will be a part of the same movement, and should be respected.

Oh! And make sure to take a daily multi-vitamin with 100% if daily needed B12.

    Good luck!

  8. Vegetarian diet's i understand can be hard, but in grocery stores if you look in the organic section they have meat free soy hotdogs and there's boca burgers which really don't taste much different then regular burgers.

    =]

  9. here's a suggestion don't put a label on yourself and eating habbits

  10. Well if you really want do be a vegatarian you got to stay  away from meats just try to stick it into you mind . Stay away from meats.

  11. Fish & chicken are actually the meats that you can eat if your part vegetarian.

But there are fake chickens, and I think they're better than the real thing. Well, I did, but I now forgot how chicken tasted like but when I remembered what it tasted like I liked the fake stuff better.

  12. For me, now that I don't eat meat, it seems completely unappealing to me, I was actually at a bbq this weekend and was served pork bbq and I did take a small bite, and it actually tasted awful to me, once you cut it out and start eating healthier your body doesn't want the meat and the toxins that are in it anymore
