  1. Can you say how many stitches you're starting with?  It'd be easier to figure out.

Basically what it means though is if you're starting with 9 stitches in your first round (which I'll use because 9x9=81), you'll increase in every stitch (that's plus 9, divided evenly so the hat isn't awkward)  You'll have 18 stitches.  Round 2: work even (no increases) (18 sts)

Round 3: Increase in every second stitch, 27 sts total

Round 4: Work even (every even numbered row, work even)

Round 5: Increase in every 3rd stitch, 36 sts

Round 7: Increase in every 4th stitch, 45 sts

    Round 9:  "                  "    5th stitch, 54 sts

    Round 11:  "                 "   6th stitch, 63 sts

    Round 13  "                  "   7th stitch, 72 sts

Round 15     "              "    8th stitch, 81 stitches total. Finish your pattern.  If it ends there, then do one more round even and bind off.

  2. sounds like you should count how many stitches you had in your last round of single crochets....then i would space the 9 sc in the second new round out so it would be evenly spaced...and then keep the rounds the same on the next round of rows of stitches....then increase by adding 9 to the next row next row the same as last round,,,next ow add 9 new stitches spaced evenly around.....etc.....your last row of rounds should be when you count the stitches and you have made 81 sc in that round....does this make sense for you?  hope it helps
