I'm curious about HepA shots for a trip to the Dominican?

I am heading to the dominican in less than 2 weeks, and haven't had Hepititis A shots. Is this bad? I've heard so many people saying you need these shots, but you have to take them 2 months before your trip, and we don't have that long. I'm pregnant, and much more concerned about everything right now. We are going to an all inclusive resort in Peurto Plata, Dominican Republic, and don't plan on eating outside the resort. We've been to the city before and had no troubles.

  1. There is not much you need to worry about, no one requires your shot chart record and if you don’t get involved in any high risk activities you should be fine. I’m sure you will have the time of your life, have a safe trip!

  2. you need to check with your doctor. you can probably get a twinrix which is a combo of hep a and b. but you for sure need to check with the doc. just dont drink the water down there which you already know since you have been there. i am going to say you are fine since they shots are not required to go there unlike going to africa where certain shots have to be done.

  3. Hi Sabatha..,

First off all you don't need any "Shots" to go to the Dominican Republic. And from reading well your question, you're planning to stay inside the resort why? Who in the name of God told you there is something dangerous outside? I suppose some jealous ignorant person(s)... Anyway congratulation and take it easy my dear future mother, everything in Puerto Plata is OK even the food outside the resorts (sometimes even better outside!) Happy to help you (I live here in Puerto Plata).

    Happy Feet

  4. You could check with your doc...but it is too late anyway.  I believe you will be fine staying at the resort.
