Question:

I'm curious about my cat's weight after being spayed today?

It's been about eight hours since her operation.

She's naturally thin, and a very small cat, but she seems smaller.

When she went in, her stomach was a little concave but not much less than usual. I went to check on her belly a minute ago and her stomach is tight and concave. Her skin actually reminds me of an emaciated cat I found in my tree a few months ago.

I'm rather worried about her. They told me not to feed her tonight, only some water if she'll take it. She's otherwise acting fine, but she's so tiny I worry about her.

Is this normal?

  1. Chances are she's a bit dehydrated after the surgery, especially if she wasn't put on fluids. She might also be a big hypothermic. Small animals can lose a lot of fluid when their abdomen is open, and they're not given water before hand so it's not than unusual. Most of her weight is water so she may well be a bit thinner too.

She's likely to be starving tomorrow morning, and her next bowel motion may be a bit on the constipated side.

If you are really worried about feeding her, a teaspoon of food in a few hours isn't likely to hurt her, but not more than that until tomorrow morning. She may not even feel like eating at all tonight, each cat is different.
