I'm currently getting my A&P license and thinking about becoming a pilot too. Is it worth it?

Question

I'm about half way through my airframe and powerplant school and thinking about going to flight school. I dont want to work for any major airlines, I would like to work for some little charter business as a pilot and their mechanic. All said and done I'll be about 55, 60 thousand in debt when I'm done. I guess I'm wanting to know if it is worth it in pay? Wheres a good place to look for jobs? Just any info would be great , thanks.

With fuel likely to get more expensive, small

aviation is not a very promising career path.

The business is shrinking and likely to continue

to do so.

The nice thing about this that if you buy your own plane, you can save thousands doing your own maintenance and annuals.

Alaska is a good place to look although a lot of pilot jobs are seasonal.  There are more pilots per capita there than anywhere else.  But there are a lot of jobs too.

If you go into business jet it is a plus to have your pilots license if you intend to go into management. You can look at a pay of about $30,000 -$50,000 a year depending on who you sign with.  You might want to look at this web page to get an idea. Becoming a Pilot is absotively worth it.  But, do it because you love flying, not because you want to make alot of money.  You could also get your CFI Certificate, and earn some money teaching someone to fly under part 61...
