Would university be cheaper there?

Here, housing on average is about $1200-1500 + food, gas, electricity, etc.

  1. Poverty living is around $250 -$300 per week. That is what most pensioners have to live on.

Sharing a student house will keep costs down as well as a pasta and rice diet.

It also depends on where in Australia one resides

  2. From what I have read, as I am looking into moving there, it is pretty high compared to other countries. You should check out this website:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-austral...

It is an immigration website for those migrating to Australia. The information is amazing!

  3. This site gives conversion option for many places including the U.S. based on the the option for the U.S. it seems to about 20-25% cheaper to live in Australia. One thing that ahs improved this recently is our dollar rising in value against the greenback from 65c a few years ago to ~95c making imported goods a lot more affordable.

  4. I don't know how much university is in CA, but I think it must be cheaper here in Australia as we have a large number of Americans coming here to study. The ones I know have done it for economic reasons as much as for the fact that they prefer our lifestyle and they can all still afford to fly home during our summer vacation.

Our housing costs (in Brisbane anyway) are lower than the figures you've given and other costs will be somewhat higher here overall though some things are cheaper. Petrol(gas), most clothing and footwear, alcohol (except wine), personal items, cars, internet and electrical goods are more expensive in Australia. Food, most entertainment, electricity, insurance etc are cheaper in Oz.

I've included a link to the University of Queensland website to enable you to compare course fees:
