  1. Salamanca is loads of fun and has beautiful sights and a vibrant student population.  Grenada is incredible and culturally fascinating because you can see all the Middle Eastern influences in architecture and culture from when the Moors occupied Spain hundreds of years ago.  Seville is also a lovely city with lots to do and see.  If you have to pick, I would go to Grenada because it is the most likely to be different from Barcelona and you will be amazed at everything you will see there!

    Happy travels!

  2. sevilla and travel on the costa del sol

  3. Ibiza was pretty fantastic.  Gorgous Island.  Costa del Sol was fun too, more relaxing.  Sevillia was amazing historically, and just generally beautiful.

  4. Many...

Madrid The historic sites and museums are magnificent

Also (and for the same reasons):

Seville, Córdoba, Granada (those in Andalucía)

Toledo, Aranjuez and Segovia (near Madrid)

Avila, Burgos and Salamanca (In Castilla)

    Santiago de Compostela (in Galicia)

    Merida (in Extremadura).

    For other reasons:

Valencia (especially during Las Fallas...they ALWAYS end  on March 19th. )

Alicante has lovely beaches, and the Palm Groves in Elche are worth seeing...

The Costa del Sol....Malaga, Marbella, Mijas (where I live) (this is a good area to use as a base, stay over and take day trips to the other towns in Andalucía.)

Then there is Jerez de La Frontera and El Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz, where the great wine cellars are. Very interesting to visit, as is the Spanish Riding School in Jerez.

Plus there are dozens of smaller towns worth seeing...

All depends on how much free time you have...

and...how long you are going to stay in Barcelona.

I wish you success in your studies, and time to enjoy the country you are now visiting!

Spain is beautiful...from Catalunya to Galicia to Andalucia!

I've been here nearly 34 years... and still haven't seen everything!

  5. Near Barcelona go to Sitges for beaches, Andorra for skiing.  Further afield, big city true Spain is in Mdrid not Barcelona.  B is Catalan and has its own unique character.  Sevilla is my other big city recommendation.  Smaller places, hit all three at one time Salamanca, Avila and Segovia.  Salamanca is amazing but overrun with American tourists.  San Sebastian is spectacular.  Gibralter for the surreal and nearby Tarifa for a wonderful small town port experience.  You can also get cheap one day tours of Tangier from Tarifa.  The "Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos" is also great.  It is a string of beautiful small white painted towns high on mountain areas in Andalucia.
