How can the IRS give your Stimulus Reabte check to an ex, when you have custody & are raising the child without any help? This is wrong!

  1. If you owe Child Support that is collected through the state then they are being intercepted to pay for child support.  If you have custody of the child then you should see if you can go through a state agency that collects child support to file to collect from the mother.  If you had to help support the child when he was with his mom then she should have to help support the child while he is with you.

  2. Apparently you owed child support from some earlier time when your ex had custody and you didn't pay the support that you were supposed to.

If there was never a time when you were supposed to pay support and didn't, did you just split up recently and filed a joint return for 2007?  If so, then the rebate check would be in both of your names but sent to the address the IRS has for you - it would need BOTH signatures to be cashed.

I'm a little confused when you say you have custody since the divorce, but you pay child support - what is missing from this story?
