Question:

I'm discontent about my height.

I am a 14 year old girl, turning 15 next April. And I'm a little uncomfortable with my height. I'm a bit under 5'6 and from the looks of it possibly still growing. I'm taller than both of my older sisters (19 & 16) and my mom. My dad isn't much taller than me also.

So my question is, are there any sports or drinks or something along those lines that may my stunt growth? Coffee? Kick boxing? Anything besides lifting weights. I would most definitely like to stop growing now, because I don't want to get any taller than this. I know its not what I eat, because I haven't touched a vegetable in months. I'm not healthy at all, and stopped drinking milk other than in my cereal. And yet im still growing, slowly, but still growing.

I'm truly and honestly not looking for anyone to tell me that I should be happy with the way I am or that it's genetics (even though both parents aren't that tall) ect.. Are there things I can avoid eating that'll make me grow? Pants to make me look a little shorter? I already wear shoes with no heels or extra rubber or whatever it is at the bottom.

Anything?! I'll try everything.

  1. U have still have time. I wouldn't worry about too much.

  2. Wow. Aside from the fact that 5'6'' is relatively short, you really need A. some confidence and B. a  healthy diet. Ok, so you don't want to be tall. Got it. You don't want to accept it either. Ok. But I don't think you want to have osteoporosis when you're 40 years old from not getting enough calcium. So don't avoid milk because some one said it would stop you from growing (it won't). There is nothing you can do to stunt growth. Well, maybe there is, but it is probably very bad for you and would have bad side effects. But you asked for things that made you appear shorter. Hmm. Grow your hair really long (I'm 5'10'', and 14 as well). And yeah. Don't wear heels. But girl, you really need to accept yourself. Even if you stop growing, you still sound really unconfident, so learn to accept yourself, really tall or no. But if you do grow a few inches, you learn to accept it. I was 5'6'' when I was 12, when everyone else was like 4'10, Kay? So just love being tall. And eat some vegetables. Jeez...

  3. I hate that feeling. I'm 5'4, but very thin so I look super-tall, plus I hang around short people, so...

Generally, short-shorts will make you look taller, and if you can find jeans that are a little long on you, it helps with the "shorter" illusion. Also, try wearing a flashy belt or something, to avoid drawing the eye up. Certainly don't do a colorful hat!

Also, eat those veggies. That doesn't make you taller, but it will help you p**p. Milk is fine in smaller amounts, maybe a little more than you're having now.

  4. Are you joking? I grew taller well into my 50s. That's unusual, but not unheard of. I was 5'5" at high school graduation, and now I'm 5'7". I went to a modeling agency, took classes, ended up teaching, modeling, and acting. Height can be an advantage. And you are barely average height for an adult female (even if you are 14 right now).

Please come up with solutions on how your height can be an advantage to you. If certainly is not detrimental. Eat healthfully and get yourself well. At your age you don't want to cause problems that will last all your life. Find a sport that appeals to you, take care of your body, and enjoy your life. Get into track, decathlon, dance, volleyball, there are so many activities that are fun, and social.

Just remember: you won't be 14 forever.
