He's insane over pool (billiards) and i'm drawing a pool table with the balls racked at one end and a pool stick with the cue ball lying on the other end. Can anyone tell me or show me a picture of how the balls are supposed to be racked?

  1. It depends on the game. For 9 ball it's 1 in the front , nine in the middle and the rest are random. There are different racks for 8 ball depending on the venue. In my league we just go solid , stripe around the perimeter and 8 in the middle. For straight pool it is just random. I hope this helps ya.

  2. My friend, "eightbraker" is correct.  Just to elaborate on BCA rules for 8-ball, as long as you have the 8-ball in the middle and the back corners different suits (one stripe and one solid), it's legal.  I also like to alternate the stripes and solids, but it's not required.  "Eightbraker" is right on the money for 9-ball.  It's kind of a strange rule for straight pool, but under BCA rules, on the opening rack, the 1 ball is to be placed on the racker's right corner and the 5 ball on the left corner.  I've never understood why, but it's in the rules.  All subsequent racks are entirely random.  "Eightbraker" should get the points.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S. Wish your brother a happy birthday for me.  May all the rolls go his way.

  3. Starting from one at the top, continue in order from left to right.
