If I drive to Canada via the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, NY, what type of documentation will I need to get across the border and then back again?

Will a birth certificate do, and does it need to be an original or can it be a copy?

  1. You are crossing an international border, and according to laws that went into effect this year, even for Canada and Mexico, you should have a passport.  That's the best information I have.

  2. call the canadian border patrol, they will be able to tell you exactly what you need. i do know that a birth certificate and a photo id used to be the only thing that you needed to get across the border but i have heard that now a passport is needed (not sure if this is true).

  3. American and Canadian citizens won't need a passport to cross the land/sea borders until June 2009.Therefore you will need your driver's license and birth certificate (original)

  4. You need the original or a certified copy from the issuing agency..not just a copy machine copy...of your birth certificate, and a gov't issued photo I.D. See site below for current info.

  5. Bring your driver's licence, valid ID in your state and your passport. If you don't have your passport, getting back to the U.S. won't be easy.

  6. Drivers license will actually do.

  7. birth certificate, id, passport good luck make sure you have these things if you dont yuh *** is like grass. you not gonna pass the border. i dont think your birth certificate matters once you have it thats what counts it can be copy or the original one. good luck have fun
