I'm eager to be my own boss!?

Question

I HATE working under people, and do much better being the boss, so i'm trying to come up with some good ideas of how i can start making some money either from home or starting up a shop. I live in a town of less than 700 ppl and 20 miles from a town of 10k+. I love the idea of being a business owner, i'm just not sure of what would be the best thing here. There really is not much to this town other than two gas stations, 4 bars, 1 diner, and a new salon.

Give me any ideas that you have in mind, as long as they're NOT RUDE. Tell me what you do to make money from home as well.

I am my own boss as well. I do really fun and educational in-home parties for women only. Very minimal startup and has a direct marketing approach. If you are interested in more informaiton please let me know. No store-front needed and you will be providing a service that every women needs :)

There are many legitimate home-based business opportunities – and many that are extremely successful - but you must research and evaluate each opportunity in order to choose wisely. In order to assess if they are legit: check with the Better Business Bureau to see what their reputation is like, check to see how long the business has been around, and be wary of those that ask for money upfront!

Of the companies that appear to be legitimate, look to see what kind of training and ongoing support they'll offer you, as that can be a crucial point to your success.

Don't worry about what the world needs, think about what makes you come alive...then go do that.  That's what you will be the best at.

I too wanted to be my own boss, but didn't have the capital to open a business and sustain it so I chose a home business instead.  It was less expensive to get started and once I built it, I had the time, freedom and money to do other things.

I love being my own boss!

It is going to be difficult to start a business if you really don't have a passion.  I'm a retired RN, and for years I wanted to own a Mexican restaurant.  For ten years, I studied about owning and running restaurants.  I made business plans.  I attended SBA seminars.  Starting a business is not something you do on a whim.

That said, if you have some abilities that you can capitalize on you might want to think about starting a business from your home (cleaning houses, typing, pet-sitting, whatever).

I also live in a rural area and it is much more advantageous for me not to have to drive too far, especially now with the cost of gas.  (My restaurant was 30 miles from my home).  

You might want to look into some of the online opportunities, but as was said before, research well before jumping into anything.  I wish you the best.

Just a little heads up, when you are you own a business, all of your customers are your boss.  ALL of them.  So if you can't get along with your boss now, it would be very difficult to get along with a thousand bosses.  But good luck anyway........

Try finding cheap items that are drastically marked down and sell them on ebay.  Another way is to find a good reputable company that is willing to sell to you in larger quantities ( the more you purchase the cheaper they are ).  Look for things that people need or use in everyday life.  Goods that sell fast with a quick turnover.

Some people sell used items and some sell new stuff, but remember to always describe the item exactly to the best of your knowledge.

To start out, when you are out of town, you could always go to thrift shops and pick up cheap items from there and start your listings at the price you paid for... You would be amazed at how many people are interested in good quality, pre-loved items.  eBay is great because you can connect with the whole world, reaching millions of people and be your own boss at the same time.  No-one dictating to you, you do it in whatever hours suit you best and at your own leisure :-)
