My OPT is valid till June 2009, so I will never be out of status. I am employed full-time and my H1B applied for by my employer kicks in from October 2008 for the first leg of 3 years. Should I consider canada immigration process now or after the H1B has kicked in?

  1. Canada is currently dealing with about 980,000 applications for immigration. I doubt your current status will have any impact one way or the other as it will still take about 4-6 years. So, if you're thinking about immigrating to Canada, you'd best do it sooner rather than later...

...assuming you even qualify to immigrate. Please check out http://www.cic.gc.ca and go through it carefully

    Hope that helps

  2. I don't see much difference if your goal is to emigrate to Canada. Your application to Canada is not a factor in your OPT or H1b status.
