  1. Take it to the shop, you just may need a tune-up or cleaning.. still get it check out

  2. It could be your catalytic converter

  3. I need more information.  If the car is struggling to idle and when you accelerate under a load, the car jerks, you have a fuel to air mixture problem or an ignition problem.

Check your air filter and replace if dirty.  At least bang the air filter to dislodge any dust.  If it is really dirty, just replace it.

    or

Have your carburator adjusted, if you have one on your car.

    or

Inspect the air hose connecting the air filter box and the engine if it is  an injected engine.  Move the hose around with your hand with the engine running.  If you have a hole in the hose, by moving it around, you will open the hole larger.  The engine will suddenly die.  Use duct tape around the hose for a temporary fix.

    or

    Replace the fuel filter.

    or

    Replace spark plugs and wires.

    or

It could be plugged fuel injectors.

Do you hear knocking?  Are you getting a vibration when you race the engine while standing still?   A vibration here is usually a piston not firing.   Any backfiring?

After rereading your question... you might have a bad computer.  Is your maximum speed 20 mph or slower, even with the accerator down as far as it will go?  Your computer is dead.   Computers are easy to replace.  Go to  www.car-parts.com for used parts.  It is an association of junk yards in the US.
