I'm expecting in December, and my sister just had her baby, my 4 year old keeps asking me?

how the babies are getting out of our bellies!

Any clever ideas on what to tell him?

For a while he was okay with "there's a special place that babies come out"

Now he wants to know where that is.

I feel like i've dug myself a hole here.

Any suggestions?

  1. Just be honest with him, if you're in a hole already then don't dig it any deeper. ;-)

  2. Nikki O! I am sitting here and I can not think of a suitable answer! I think that you have come up with a great question I gave you a star for it.

  3. Does your son know that he has a p***s and girls have a v****a. Tell him that and then tell him the truth. My daughter knows the difference between boys and girls, but for a couple of years I am just going to tell her that the baby comes out of mommy's belly button.

  4. just be honest.... and say the v****a  it is between the girls legs, and polite girls or ladies dont show it to anyone but Dr's or their husbands because it is private.

and boys don't have one. that is why they don't get pregnant

good luck.... and be matter of fact about it.

it sounds like its time for the first birds and bees discussion, just be matter of fact about it, and maybe tell him he shouldn't talk about it with his friends, it  might make other parents angry because they want to tell their own kids when they feel it is time for their kids to know about it.

  5. Firstly I would suggest telling the truth but if you feel like it is not time maybe tell him mummy goes to the hospital and the doctors help get the baby out.  (which is the truth)

You could say the baby will come out of a hole in the mommy but he may ask to see it :)

    Good Luck

  6. He is four and old enough to know that there is a difference between boys and girls. Just tell him that where his p***s (or willie or whatever you call it) is, you have something different and the baby comes out there. No point making up stories or you'll just have more to explain.
