I'm fat, how much should I expect to spend on a mountain bike?

I'm overweight so I want something that is going to be sturdy enough to support 300lbs. I don't want "top of the line" but I want a good solid bike that I will get a lot of use out of.

  1. Do you want to ride off road?  Or are you looking at a mountain bike because you see it having a frame with bigger tubing?

If you don't want to ride off road, consider a hybrid bike, possibly with wider tires, say, 700c-35 (700 is the wheel diameter; 35 is the width).  It will support you just fine.

If you do want a mountain bike, then look at spending more like $500.  You don't want cheap parts or a bad assembly job.  You'll end up spending another $150 to get it fixed, and your parts won't be any better than before, and you'll have spent $500 anyway.

Go to a reputable bike shop selling multiple brands.  They may have a new model from two years ago that they'd like to move.  They may also have a trade-in on consignment.

    Good luck, and have fun.

  2. 350$

  3. $300-$400...Go to a bike shop....

  4. I would think more than 400.  You need a strong frame, fork and wheels, and usually 300 bucks bike doesn't have them.

Kona Hoss is a good option, don't know the price.
