I have the numbers but Chase has to order a new 1098 form and its going to take 2 weeks to receive. I want to file my taxes right away - do I have to wait for the 1098 form or can I mail in my 1040a , w-2 only?

  1. The IRS does NOT want you to send them your 1098 forms.  All you need to do is enter the information on your tax return properly.  You need to keep the 1098 form with your records in case you are ever audited, but it need not be sent with the 1040.  In fact, the IRS frowns upon the submission of the 1098 with the 1040.  Simply attach the W-2 and away you go.

  2. You don't normally submit a 1098 with your tax return, so just having the numbers is fine.

Is this for your student loan interest?  Or what?
