  1. Okay, flying is nothing to fear. It is very fun!!!! Taking off is fun, you get to look at the ground and scenery just whizzing by and you can feel your body sinking back into your chair. On takeoffs you are just excited about the speed. Right when you get in the air is fun, too. You see the ground just falling away from you. When you land it is fun, as well. You slow down really fast. Also, they serve you on the plane, so eat what they give you! Flying is so fun. I'm flying from San Francisco Intl. to Las Vegas on Friday. I love flying so much that I am just dying to get on that plane to Vegas! Trust me, you'll love flying, don't fear it.

Now, the noise of the airplane is something you'll have to live with, and you really don't care about it after a few minutes. But when you take off, the revving of the engines is so cool!

Now, on layovers, just go shopping in the airport and read or just sit at the airport, look out the large window in front of you and watch other planes takeoff, and think "That's going to me taking off pretty soon."

Flying is statistically the safest mode of transportation!

How old are you? I'm 13 and absolutely love flying and try to fly as much as possible!!!! You will love it!!!! Oh, the big planes, like Boeing 747s are really fun. Depending on where your layover is, you may have a large plane. The large planes are made to fly long distances, so if your layover is more than six or seven thousand miles away, you will probably get a large plane!

    FLYING TIPS:

-Bring a book or laptop if you want. The planes have magazines supplied, so you can read those.

-Flying gets boring after awhile, so just try to like the show they put on for you. There are TVs on the plane!

-Don't fly with a full bladder! There tend to be lines for the bathrooms on planes, and those bathrooms are puny! Also, you have to crawl over other people that are sitting next to you if you have to go to the bathroom.

-Get a window seat! You get a nice view, and if you're sitting next to the wing, you get to look at the cool things, like the flaps and wing spreading apart when you land. You can also look at the scenery passing and the ground zooming by when landing and taking off. You are probably thinking, "I want an aisle seat for convenience." I hate aisle seats, people hit you when their walking by you and the people sitting next to you have to crawl over you. It hurts to have an aisle seat, you will constantly get hit. While sitting next to the window you don't get hit at all, and as a bonus, you get a view.

  2. well take ur ipod and dont eat anything with beans in it fropm the airport.

  3. I flew last year to Cali for my first flight ever and I went alone.  I was nervous at first but actually it's a pretty cool experience.  I'm guessing your flying with others so that will be nice and you won't be as bored as I was I'm sure.   Once you get in the air (takeoff and landing are the fun parts) you pretty much feel like your just sitting in a car and it's boring.  Bring books to read or a laptop, and crosswords or your IPOD.  Usually airports have cool shopping areas in them for your layover, just make sure to get to  the boarding area early so you don't miss your flight.

  4. take some chewing gum (so your ears don't pop when you're lifting off and landing.

take magazines, puzzle books, an ipon/diskman...whatever.

i would pack some snacks in my carry on as well as a bathing suit & a few toiletries...in case they hold on to your luggage when you get there (not sure when check in is but if you get there before check in, sometimes they hold your bags until your room is ready) that's why i'd reccomend a bathing suit so you can do something while waiting.

make sure you keep your luggage key on your keys...dont forget them at home.

Also, wear comfy clothes since you'll be travelling for a while and sitting aruond waiting. (dress for the temp. in guatemala..wear a sweater or capris if it's chilly) oh and HAVE FUN!!! :)  Hope this helps!

  5. Vanessa's advice on bringing a bathing suit and toiletries was great advice - just be aware of the 3-oz rule.  You can't take any liquids in any container larger than 3 oz. (such as shampoos, toothpaste, ANYTHING.)  You must have all liquids and chapstick, etc. in a clear ziplock baggie (the one-quart size, no bigger).  Take a toothbrush and a SMALL tube of toothpaste, in case your bags are delayed.  Also take any medicine, and no shark objects at all.  You can't take water through security but I bring my own empty water bottle and fill it at the water fountains after you go through security.  God, I sounds like I'm with the TSA!  No, I just travel a lot.

Also, just remember that during your layover, if you leave the security checkpoint, you have to go through security to get back to your gate.  Just keep that in mind and keep your stuff with you.

In addition to the books, music, and other things that the others suggest, I always take earplugs in case you're next to the crying baby or loud talking people.  I also take a sweater because sometimes airplanes get COLD.

And yes, get a window seat.  Flying is amazing, have a great trip!
