I'm for thailand in july....?

Question

What size rucksack do i need for 10 days!! I'm 5foot 6 and size 10, so i don't want something i'm not going to be able to carry ......would a 60litre be big enough and do you know any good sites to get them from....also is it better for my back to get one with a frame ? sorry for all the q's!!

The bigger the pack the more likely you will fill it. You will read everywhere the advice that you should travel light. I can only concur. The lighter your pack, the easier it will be to carry around town, from the bus or train station to your hotel. Not only that, if you see a nice place on the way, you will feel more free to stop and enjoy it. If you need to put your pack away, you will find it easier to fit in a locker, fit under your seat, in the overhead compartment. You will be able to keep it closer to your sight on dubious journeys. You will stand out less as a backpacker, and conversely you will fit in more. You can ignore this advice, buy a large backpack, fill it and struggle around the world, you may still have a fantastic time, but could it have been even better? Once you are on the road you can't change you mind.

You need room to put the inevitable souveniers and other objects you will accumulate as you go. The size required will of course depend on when and where you travel. If you are going to hot climates only (which you are), you can get away with much less clothing.

A backpack has to be comfortable for the times you have to walk long distances with all your gear. If you are traveling pretty light as you should be, the fit becomes less important. As long as the backpack has some adjustable setting, with the right advice, you should be able to get a good fit. If possible, use the expertise of the shop assistant to set it right before you leave the store.

Of course it has to look good! Probably a dark colour would be better, you wont notice it getting dirty as much. Any bright colours will make you stand out even more. You also have to consider if yo uwant to look like you are pretty trendy and you have all the latest gear. If so, buy a name brand backpack, even get one second hand, or get a cheap imitation copy from somewhere in your travels.

As you're only going for 10 days you can probably travel very light, I'd suggest 40-45 litres.

Kchick80 has covered it all  - pretty well.

One of the daftest phenomena one can think of nowadays is the way most people - in eager anticipation of a holiday -go out and buy a whole set of new clothes - cram them into new sets of luggage  - a major inconvenience, nowadays @ airports - and additional expense.

If you're only in Thailand for 10 days - what do you REALLY need to take out there?

A tent? Cooking utensils? A full set of books, notepads, pens & pencils???

Surely not.

I would have thought any new wardrobe of clothes you wanted to buy for your trip would be much cheaper to buy when you get there  than in the UK.

So what are the "bare essentials"?

Couple of skirts & tops - 4 sets of panties -

spare shoes - and all the usual girlie things that are inseparable(favouite make-up stuff - etc)

Camera? Disposable ones work well - and they are cheap as chips in the Far East.

There's much logic behind Airlines' recent price policy changes - discouraging all the excess baggage travellers think is "essential" - and mostly isn't.

I cut it all out years ago - and wouldn't fly anywhere - for any reason - with more than the acceptable 'hand-luggage'.

Makes the going easier - I can assure you.
