  6. Freshman year of college in RI, I asked my roomie where I could get a grinder.

  8. Sounds to me like your interested in a " 12 inch ". Subway would be your best chance for that. However, many men and women only order the " 6 inch " because that's all they can handle.

  11. Yeah we call a sandwich a sandwich here. And we call a long sandwich a sub sandwich. Welcome to America.

  12. In West Penn if it is a cold sandwich, they call them subs or hogies. The warm ones are different, especially if is a philly cheese steak, then it is a cheese steak. Grinders are a hot hoagie or sub.

I am not from here, so it took me a while to figure this out.

Hey! PoBoys are a specific type of sub style sandwich and are very distinct from regular sub sandwiches. They usually have fried fish or seafood and are ALWAYS served on a very fresh baguette (and I mean real, french baguette, not the stuff that passes as a baguette in the rest of America!) Regular deli bread is unacceptable. There is a distinct difference between a regular sub sand. and a poboy just like there is between a sub and a cheese steak here. In the south, saying that may be fighting words depending on the hour of the day, lol!

also check out  muffalettas. Those are also in a class of their own!
