I'm from an Irish family and am going to live there next year. Know of Irish-Gaelic classes in Melbourne?

I'm really hoping to have a basic grasp of Gaelic before I head over to live there, I'm sure I'll pick up bits and pieces once I'm there. Thanks for any help you can give me!

  1. you wont neccessarily need a class or lesson before you come here because nobody really speaks it, except in areas called 'gaeltachts' but these are few and far between. Any bits that you wish to know you will pick up just as easy here as you will in a class, but if you want to learn obviously thats your own choice and fair play to you it is a beautiful language. almost every person in the country speaks english in our day to day lives.

email me if you want any more info on the country places to go to and see etc.

go néirigh leat! <guh nyree lat> = (good luck)

  2. You could try getting in contact with the Celtic club in Melbourne.

Their address is 320 Queen street,Melbourne.

    Their email address is info@celticclub.com.au

and their phone number is 96705153.

I rang them a couple of years ago when my daughter wanted to keep up Irish when she came to Australia, and they put me in the right direction.

  3. hate to break it 2 ya, but english is our first language!!! they only speak irish in gaelteachts and even there they can speak english fluently. dont bother learnin irish, barely anyone can even speak more then the basic...as in 'is mise jane' (i'm jane)...but if u really want to, you can get cd courses that are really good....
