  1. they're so close together though.... it's kinda like me (from the US) making a trip to canada, of course its something interesting to tell people "i'm from the united states." but i doubt you'de be excluded or anything because of it. don't let that thought bother you, i'm sure you'd be fine.

  2. I'm from Bangladesh who lived in Pakistan for about 19 years till 1973 and living in Dhaka in these days.

As far as I know from my friends who studied in India after our liberation back in 1971, it is said that Indians are more or less tolerant to foreigners and their 'follies' in the eyes of Indians.

Just be careful not to do something that would go against Hindu religious sentiment, like asking for beef-curry in any restaurant (if it is not serving strictly to Muslims). Also do not touch their utensils and such things which they take as 'sacred' and would then wash those items which were touched by any Non-Hindu (that also of belonging to upper level of their religious hierarchy).

In recent past when the VJP came to power in India, we saw a shift of the attitudes of some of the politicians who would say something like, if Pakistanis can promote their religion (Islam) then why not India to promote Hinduism? This led to bloody riots in Ahmedabad of Gujarat and also in Mumbai, Delhi and other places as the RSS under the patronage of VJP got free-hand to propagate their Hindu ideology but trying to defame other religious denominations who were living more-or-less harmoniously in India for many centuries.

Therefore, do not expect a welcome to a Bangladeshi Muslim in India the way we used to enjoy when the country was liberated in 1971 when India actively helped our freedom fighters to drive away the Pakistanis, for reasons well known to the people of this subcontinent (we are grateful to India, though).

PS. If you were from Pakistan then you would expect some kind of nervousness while studying in India. For Bangladeshi students the situation is still not that bad and I do hope you would enjoy Indian hospitality as extended to any tourists in India!
