  1. Either, you travel to Spain to learn more about the country, etc. or if you have someone in Spain that can invite you over, so you can see for yourself what you feel like to live there, etc. before you make a big decision about moving there.

  2. What you are planning can be such a positive thing!  You do, however, need to plan.  Make sure you understand the different laws, and procedures for living around wherever you choose.

If you're thinking about Spain, what is it you want to get out of the experience?  Do you want to live in one of the British "colonies", there, or are you looking to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture (two entirely different prospects).  If you want to immerse, you probably want to have studied some Spanish language and culture, first.

Do you need to work?  Being EU, you don't need a work permit, but you do probably want to have a job, and I understand that's a difficult prospect.  You probably want to plan that really well.

As for living and the red tape, insurance, etc.  There are more expert people around here, who can help you with those things.

I don't think you should give up your dream, I think you should plan it well, and understand that there may be pitfalls.  Your age is an important factor, as well.  There have been a number of teenagers posting such questions here.  I don't think anyone should consider such a move until they are at least twenty, and anyone who is retired, obviously, doesn't need to worry about the work situation.

Good luck, and have fun planning this...that's half the fun, anyway.
