I will be finishing college in September 2009 and want to go to university. Instead of going to a UK university, I would like to study in America. Any state. I am hoping to do a course in criminology or something like this. I am wondering if anybody has done this before, and how I would be able to apply to universities? Which universities are the best, where can somebody like me go on a visa? Do you know the costs? What do I do so that I am guaranteed a place when I leave college?

  1. You will have to apply to the university and can get admission only if you meet there requirements but studying in America might cost you a bit too much.

But now most of the Top Accredited Online Universities offers online degrees to international students. you will still get an American college degree and you wont even have to leave your house for that.

Criminology is one of the most important and yet demanding subject but it is essential that you get your criminology degree from a a good university with good accreditation's.

Here is a link which might come in Handy for you:

  2. Thanks for answering my question by the way =]

Now if you want to study in America the best advice I can give you is to talk about it with a teacher or with a counselor at your school (if you have one) because they know loads of information about those types of things.

Money wise- the pound is currently stronger than the American dollar which is good for you. Also get a part time job for money help when you get here.

Good luck, hope everything goes well for you.

  3. You'll need to apply either directly to the universities that interest you or through the Common Application (commonapp.org -- like UCAS except not all unis use it).

Tuition at most private universities in the U.S. is around $40,000 a year (roughly £20,000) and room, board, books, and plane tickets will set you back another $15,000 or so. Public universities are less expensive, but not much more so in the case of international students. Some unis offer financial aid to international students, but many do not.

I don't know anywhere that's good for criminology, but you can go to the College Matchmaker on collegeboard.com to find universities that match your criteria.
